Grit Comes in Layers

In the summer of 2006, two 21-year-old friends set out to do something that sounded almost impossible — ride bicycles across America.
Over 37 days, the road tested them with mountains, heat, headwinds, exhaustion, fear, laughter, unexpected kindness, and moments that would stay with them long after the ride was over.
Grit Comes in Layers is the true story of that journey — and the lessons that took nearly twenty years to fully understand.

Edward Ferraro

Edward Ferraro is an educator, athletic director, speaker, and author whose life has been shaped by a belief that growth rarely happens all at once — it happens layer by layer.
In the summer of 2006, at 21 years old, Edward and his lifelong friend Glen set out from Oregon on bicycles with one enormous goal: cross America. Over 37 days, the road tested them through mountains, heat, headwinds, exhaustion, unexpected kindness, and moments that would remain with Edward for the next twenty years.
Today, Edward works with students, athletes, coaches, and educators while carrying many of those same lessons forward. Grit Comes in Layers is his first book — the story of the ride, and of who we become along the way.
Speaking & Media Inquiry
Edward is available for speaking engagements, conferences, schools, athletic organizations, podcasts, and media interviews focused on grit, leadership, resilience, storytelling, and the lessons of the open road.
